Before Scandinavian minimalism took over the kitchen, there was a whole other design language at work — one that celebrated nature, texture, and symbolism in equal measure. This Pasari amber glass koi bowl is a perfect expression of it. Made in Indonesia during the 1970s–1980s by one of Southeast Asia's most prolific pressed glass producers, it carries the kind of tactile, dimensional quality that mass-produced glassware simply stopped making. The honey amber colour glows warmly in natural light, and the swimming koi rendered in deep relief across the interior give the bowl a sculptural presence that is as much art object as kitchenware.
In Asian cultural tradition, koi and goldfish are enduring symbols of prosperity, good fortune, and harmony — which makes this bowl as meaningful as it is beautiful. Pasari Glass, closely affiliated with KIG (Kedaung Industrial Group), produced pieces like this in amber, cobalt blue, and clear glass for both domestic and export markets. The reverse-emboss technique is clever: the exterior remains completely smooth for stability and easy handling, while the interior carries the full weight of the fish design in raised three-dimensional relief. A considered addition to a bohemian or mid-century kitchen, a fruit bowl with genuine character, or a display piece that earns its place on any shelf.

Condition
Excellent vintage condition. No chips or cracks. The glass retains full clarity, consistent honey colour saturation, and a vibrant gloss surface. The raised koi relief on the interior base shows minor surface scuffing on the highest points of the embossing — entirely consistent with decades of use and completely invisible when viewing the bowl from above or at table level. The smooth exterior is unmarked.
