The Christmas Shop — Christmas in July
There's something quietly magical about celebrating Christmas in the middle of winter — even if that winter is an Australian one, all grey skies and wood smoke and the particular stillness of a cold July morning.
Christmas in July is a tradition with real roots. In the Southern Hemisphere, where December falls in the height of summer, many of us have always felt a little wistful about the cosy, candlelit Christmas of the northern imagination — the one with roaring fires, mulled wine, and a proper roast with all the trimmings. Christmas in July is our chance to claim it. The tradition is thought to have begun in Australia and New Zealand in the early 20th century, a way of marking the winter solstice with warmth, feasting, and good company.
In our family, it has a very personal meaning. Our birthdays are stacked at the end and beginning of the year — which means there's a long, celebration-free stretch right through the middle. I've always believed that life is better with rituals, so I make a point of creating them. Christmas in July is one of mine. Short of putting up the tree, I do it properly: a traditional Christmas roast with all the trimmings, mulled wine, rum balls, gingerbread men. This year I'm even tempted to make a traditional Christmas cake — Mum's recipe, of course.
Why vintage and new, together
When I first imagined this collection, I wanted it to reflect the way I actually live with beautiful things — and that's never purely vintage, or purely new. It's both, in conversation with each other.
The loose leaf teas belong with the tea sets. If you're going to brew a proper pot in a beautiful vintage teapot, you want a tea worth drinking — and the Monista Persian Mint and Spiced Christmas blends are exactly that. The jams and fruit pastes belong with the china: a Royal Albert plate looks its best when there's actually something on it, and a Jim Jam fig paste alongside a good wedge of cheese is one of the simpler pleasures in life. The cocktail mixers make sense of the glassware — and yes, I'm still listing the glassware, there's only so much one can do at once. The candles and home fragrance are there because a beautifully set table deserves a room that smells as good as it looks. And the personal care products — the soaps, the hand creams, the bath things — are there because living well isn't just about what's on the table. It's about the whole atmosphere of a home that feels cared for.
The Living Well sale — up to 40% off
The Living Well products in this collection are on sale for Christmas in July — up to 40% off, already reflected in the price. No code needed, just add to cart. I'm moving these on because I want them to find homes, and because the right time to buy a beautiful candle or a good loose leaf tea is when it's in front of you at a price that makes the decision easy.
The vintage Christmas pieces from the Timeless Edit are at their full price, as they should be — they're irreplaceable, one-of-a-kind, and not going anywhere in a hurry.
Whether you're hosting a proper Christmas in July feast, looking for a midwinter gift, or simply treating yourself to something beautiful on a cold night — welcome. I hope you find something that makes the season feel a little more special.
🎄 The Christmas Shop is open until 25 July — Christmas Day in July. After that, the discounts close and the shop returns to its regular edit.
